A legend of Brazilian samba and MPB, singer Teresa Cristina was a guest on Roda Viva , a TV Cultura program that aired yesterday, the 22nd, and surprised viewers by talking about her love for heavy metal.
In conversation with the guests, the artist recalled her youth and her questions and insecurities about beauty, including how, at club dances, she would flee to other areas of the venue because she knew no one would ask her to dance to slow music. It was from this experience that, with her cousin's friends, she began attending heavy metal shows because, according to her, "no one asks you to dance."
Furthermore, in response to journalist Sarah Oliveira , she talks about her love for Faith No More, Van Halen , and especially Iron Maiden . “There’s a part of hard rock that talks about love, Van Halen (…) But I like this thing Iron Maiden does, talking about Egypt, about the Pharaoh, it talks a bit about the Cold War… For a while I wanted to escape this issue of love, because love wasn’t bringing me much happiness… so it was nice to sing Number Of The Beast , Powerslave (…) and what you [Sarah, who commented on the sensitivity in rock] said about Kurt Cobain , for me Kurt Cobain brought a change, just like Guns N’ Roses brought a change… I was in love with Robert Smith , from The Cure … and my sister would say, ‘Wow, but this man has a spider face, smeared lipstick…’, and I’d say, ‘But that’s what I like (laughs)’”.
