Tenacious D announces new album and post-apocalyptic animated series.

The album will feature Dave Grohl on drums and will be released later this year

Tenacious D has announced that they will release a new studio album titled Post-Apocalypto on November 2nd. The 21-track album will be produced by John Spiker and Dave Grohl on drums.

Post-Apocalypto is already available for pre-order on this website , and to accompany the album, an animated series of the same name will be released. The first episode will air on September 28th, and from that date, a new chapter will be released every Friday until the album's launch.

The animation for the series was done by Jack Black , and the voices were recorded by him and his colleague Kyle Gass . In a press release, the band explained the concept behind the project:

Post-Apocalypto shows Tenacious D in a world of complete destruction after an atomic bomb. Surviving the attack in classic, cinematic fashion (in an indestructible 1950s refrigerator), the duo quickly learns that new forms of evil have emerged. One thing is clear: for humanity to prevail, Tenacious D must save the world.

With unimaginable plot twists, an insane visit to the White House, a time machine, an adventure through space, and the help of some familiar parental issues, Post-Apocalypto is as funny as it is political, and as brilliant as its incredible creators. The music is very good, too.”

Post-Apocalypto is Tenacious D's first work since Rize of the Fenix (2012), and you can watch a teaser of the project below.
