Greta Van Fleet is one of the bands that has gained the most popularity in the last decade — whether through praise or criticism.
The band's sound resembles the classic Led Zeppelin , generating some outrage from a portion of the fans, but the band's high quality is undeniable.
Formed by brothers Josh Kiszka (vocalist), Jake Kiszka (guitarist), Sam Kiszka (bassist), and Daniel Wagner (drummer), Greta Van Fleet has released four albums, featuring a series of songs that are outliers.
To celebrate the birthday of twins Josh and Jake, check out a list of the best songs from the American group.
“Safari Song” – From The Fires
Starting with the opening track from the band's first album, From The Fires , released in 2017, "Safari Song" has a killer riff that introduces the song. The instruments complement each other and Josh's vocals sound more subdued than in other songs, which may appeal to those who aren't big fans of the vocalist's high notes.
“Rolling In The Deep” – Spotify Singles
and Greta Van Fleet participated in Spotify Singles , releasing a cover version of "Rolling In The Deep," originally performed by Adele .
The choice was spot on. The quartet delivered an interesting, powerful, and very melodic reinterpretation that, I dare say, sounds even better than the singer's version.
“My Way Soon” – The Battle at Garden's Gate
Released in 2021, The Battle at Garden's Gate isn't as good an album as his two predecessors, but there are some standout tracks. Among them is "My Way Soon," which has a strong groove, a measured rhythm that builds during the chorus.
“You're The One” – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army
A powerful ballad graces the album Anthem Of The Peaceful Army (2018). “You're The One” is a beautiful declaration of love, exuding tranquility, in a track featuring acoustic guitar.
The contrast between Josh's voice and the calmness of the instrumental is something that impacts the listener, especially the part where the drums speed up, towards the end of the track.
“Edge Of Darkness” – From The Fires
From The Fires has some of Greta Van Fleet's best songs, and "Edge Of Darkness" is one of them. Here, we see Josh less "shy" and demonstrating the true power of his voice, with sections where he sings high notes, contrasting with calmer passages.
It has a catchy chorus and, once again, they don't disappoint and deliver an excellent song.
“Lover, Leaver” – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army
Another song that starts with a great guitar riff. The music is danceable and upbeat, with good drum lines — where Daniel really lets loose — which, combined with the bass and vocals, make the listening experience much more interesting.
“Black Smoke Rising” – From The Fires
Perhaps the best introductory riff in a Greta Thunberg song is that of "Black Smoke Rising." It's also a track with an addictive chorus, great bass lines, and very well-executed vocals.
“Broken Bells” – The Battle at Garden's Gate
"Broken Bells" begins calmly, then builds to a beautiful crescendo, taking shape and gaining more power and potency, turning into a beautiful ballad.
The music alternates between softer and more powerful moments, which makes it even more exciting.
“When The Curtain Falls” – Anthem Of The Peaceful Army
Returning to the more upbeat songs, “When The Curtain Falls” is a good choice to introduce someone to Greta Van Fleet. All the musicians sound exceptional, especially Josh Kiszka, who uses his voice phenomenally.
“A Change Is Gonna Come” – From The Fires
Finally, to conclude the list, we have "A Change Is Gonna Come," a track with blues influences, performed in a way that allows you to feel everything the band wanted to convey. The backing vocals also contribute to this perception of a track that emanates a lot of emotion.
