Tears For Fears explains the use of Artificial Intelligence in the cover of their new album.

The cover of 'Songs For A Nervous Planet' received criticism online.

Tears For Fears Songs For a Nervous Planet , on October 25th. The album will feature 22 songs, 18 of which were recorded live and four are new studio tracks.

What caused the biggest stir, however, was the album cover, which received a large amount of criticism from fans who accused the band of using Artificial Intelligence to create the artwork.

In light of this, the group formed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith decided to speak out and explain why they used the resource. Through the band's social media, the musicians said that the cover was developed jointly with the artist Vitalie Burcovschi , better known as Surrealistly .

In the publication, the band says: “The artwork for the album Songs For A Nervous Planet is a mixed-media digital collage, with AI being just one of the many tools used in the creative process. We wanted vibrant artwork that evoked a sense of science fiction, futuristic themes, and an escape from the familiar.”

“The sunflowers are a joyful nod to classic Tears For Fears imagery, while the astronaut juxtaposition is a link to our upcoming song, 'Astronaut,' and a sense of alienation and not belonging. We’ve been fans of Surrealistly’s work for a long time and knew he would be the perfect artist to bring our vision to life,” the band continued.

The statement concludes with Surrealistly saying that “collaborating with the band to bring their vision to life was incredible” and that they “believe the final artwork captures the powerful essence of their story.”

Band fails to convince fans.

Even with the statement, fans are still saying that the use of Artificial Intelligence on the album cover may not have been a good choice.

One follower commented, "Musicians are like this: don't use AI to create music. Musicians are also like this: we use AI for our album cover."

Another fan said: “I love you guys, but this is disappointing. AI steals the work of real artists. Surely it shouldn’t be difficult to hire a talented artist to create this exact image, but with much more soul and originality?
