In a recent interview, bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey , both from Tool , spoke about the band's upcoming work.
The group's most recent album is Fear Inoculum (2019), released after a thirteen-year wait.
Revolver magazine , the musicians shared what they plan to do: “This time it will be different. Everyone’s life is different and everyone’s expectations are different,” says Chancellor.
“Time is precious now, so you try and look for ways to be more efficient with the process. We discussed this a lot and how we can bring a new album to life in a slightly different way.”
Carey spoke about the "filtering process the band does on the songs and that, if approved by all four members of the band, they believe it can work. "It's a really meticulous process that we go through to finish [an album] and get to where we're all completely convinced."

The magazine suggested that Tool might release an EP instead of an album. The members contributed ideas, and Carey said that "it's going well so far": "We don't have an agent," she added. "We're no longer under contract with any record label. We're free to do what we want."
