In a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show , Machine Gun Kelly gave an emotional account of the last time he was with Taylor Hawkins before her sudden death on Friday night, the 25th.
Just two days before the incident, both the former rapper and the Foo Fighters were scheduled to play at the same festival in Paraguay, but both shows were canceled due to a lightning storm. To compensate for the missed performance, Dave Grohl invited Gun Kelly and his team to a small party on the rooftop of his hotel along with the other band members.
“We got off the elevator in a group of 20 people and Taylor gave attention to each one of us. Even my assistant, they were talking about being from Topanga. He was such a beautiful soul,” said Machine Gun Kelly. “He came over to tell me that he was at the premiere of the Mötley Crew where I played Tommy Lee and complimented me on picking up all of his mannerisms.”
According to Gun Kelly, the last thing Taylor Hawkins said to him and his team was that he was very upset that he didn't get to see them perform that night. The former rapper and his band had set up a speaker system directed towards the back of the stage so that their idols, the Foo Fighters, could hear them better, but the performance never happened.
“I really want to thank him and tell his children that, at a time when the outside world is really tearing us down, he made us feel confident and loved. Your father is a great, great man, and we were all lucky to know him,” she concluded.
