Miley Cyrus almost cancelled her performance at Lollapalooza Brazil , held last Saturday, the 26th, after receiving news of the death of Taylor Hawkins , drummer of the Foo Fighters .
Before singing “Angels Like You” with her friend's photo on the festival's big screen, the singer explained her emotion and couldn't hold back her tears. “I think almost everyone knows that we lost a rock legend yesterday, my friend Taylor Hawkins. I just want to send my deepest condolences to the Foo Fighters and Hawkins families,” she said.
Cyrus then revealed that Taylor was the first person she spoke to after the scare of a plane crash last week on her way to Paraguay , when lightning struck the plane carrying the singer and her entire team, forcing an emergency landing.
The drummer was already at the festival, but Miley couldn't get there in time. "That would have been the last time I saw my friend, but I couldn't," she said through tears. Watch the moment here .
Before the performance, Miley Cyrus shared her grief on social media. “Brazil… I’ve had stressful days, both physically and emotionally,” she wrote. “My mind wants to run, but my heart and soul would never leave the country without giving the best show possible. Tonight’s show is in honor of my friend Taylor Hawkins. The most badass guy I know who would want me to shine and sing LOUD for the love of rock n roll! I will succeed with a little help from him up there and from all of you.”
Taylor Hawkins died last Friday, the 25th , in a hotel in Bogotá, shortly before leaving with his band for a show at a festival in Colombia. The musician was 50 years old and the cause of death has not yet been revealed.
