Tarja Turunen has always used fashion to her advantage in music videos and live performances, but the outfits she chooses aren't always the most comfortable or flexible enough to endure an entire show, and the singer has even experienced embarrassment during a tour with Nightwish .

The singer recalled in an interview with Metal Hammer an incident during the band's first series of shows in North America, probably in 2000. "My pants were made of this PVC material, no breathability, really awful. I was sweating like a pig in them," she said.

This discomfort would have been overcome, but something happened and the front zipper of the pants broke. “I kept singing until the song ended and thought, ‘What do I do, what do I do?’ I ran backstage to find some black gaffer tape to match the shiny PVC pants,” he continued.

Unfortunately, the most aesthetically pleasing solution didn't work. "I went back on stage and did the rest of the show with a towel in front of me. My underwear was yellow. Like, seriously? On that particular day, did I really need to wear yellow underwear?", Tarja joked.

The singer now recalls the story with good humor and, as she summarized in an interview with the EMP Rockinvasion , in which she also mentioned the incident: "It was the most hilarious thing (...). Shit happens."
