System Of A Down: "It's unlikely we'll make a new album anytime soon"

Daron Malakian said it's unlikely that System Of A Down will work on new material again

A Down guitarist Daron Malakian has said it's unlikely the band will make new music anytime soon.

Last year, Malakian publicly accused singer Serj Tankian of not wanting to record. Tankian responded that creative and financial differences with Malakian led to the impasse. In a Facebook message, Tankian said that Malakian wanted to control System of a Down's creative process, as well as wanting more money from sales and being the only member to speak to the press.

Daron spoke in an interview about why he reactivated Scars On Broadway last year. "I had a lot of material, a lot of music, and it was clearer where I was in my life in terms of releasing it. It took a while to understand what was going on with System and whether we were going to make an album or not. We couldn't resolve some things face-to-face, so it was time to start releasing my music," he explained.

“I think my sound fits both bands. So if System decides to record an album, I think I’ll have the material for it. But I’m not going to wait any longer to see what happens,” he said.

Daron's frustration involves the musical direction each member wants to take, among other things. “People change. Over time, tastes change. People want to take the band in different directions. And there are other band members who don't want to go in those directions. So we haven't yet reached an understanding of how we want to do it, if we make a record. I never say never, but at this point, it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.”
