System of a Down paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne during the band's first show on their US tour. The performance took place last Wednesday, August 28th, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
To celebrate the legacy of the Prince of Darkness, the group led by vocalist Serj Tankian performed a cover of the classic "Snowblind" by Black Sabbath . The track in question belongs to the album Master of Reality , from 1971.
Before starting the song, guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian said: “When we started, they put us on the road to tour. New York and New Jersey were some of the first places in the United States where we toured. There was one tour that was the biggest for System of a Down: Ozzfest . We did a few Ozzfests. So, some of you are old enough to have been there. Many weren't even born yet. I want to thank Ozzy Osbourne. We want to thank Ozzy Osbourne.” [transcription via Blabbermouth ]
Amid shouts of "Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy" from the crowd, Malakian added that they were going to play a song about cocaine and announced "Snowblind".
