System of a Down thanks Joe Biden for recognizing the Armenian genocide

Even John Dolmayan, an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump, posted a thank you message to the politician

System of a Down thanked Joe Biden after the US president's statement regarding Armenian Remembrance Day and recognition of the genocide suffered by the country at the beginning of the last century.

Despite strong differences in their understanding of the political landscape in the United States, the members of System of a Down share a common view regarding Armenian issues. The band was formed precisely in the fight for recognition of the Armenian genocide , which occurred in 1915, when the local population was massacred in an attempt to gain independence from the Ottoman Empire.

“Thank you to President Joe Biden for properly recognizing the Armenian Genocide today. This extremely important milestone is a huge step on the long road to justice,” the band posted on their official Instagram account . “As System Of A Down , we want to acknowledge and thank all of you who have stood with us over the years marching in the streets, signing petitions, and expressing your support for holding Turkey accountable for making reparations to the descendants of 1.5 million Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians systematically massacred by their Ottoman Turkish ancestors.”

Even John Dolmayan , an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump , posted a message of gratitude to the new president. "I will be eternally grateful to this government as a proud Armenian and American," he declared .

In an official statement , President Biden said, “We are committed to preventing such an atrocity from happening again (...). And we remind ourselves to always remain vigilant.”
