The debut of Summer Breeze in Brazil, in April of this year, was considered a success in many aspects, from the lineup to the overall experience Renato Sanson points out in a podcast.
In the latest episode of Renatocast , the content creator and frequent attendee of rock and metal shows and festivals shares the perspective of a person with a disability at such a large event. “But the accessibility issue [at Summer Breeze Brasil ] was awful. It wasn't even bad, it was terrible, dreadful,” he said. “What I always criticize in my coverage is where they place people with disabilities to watch the shows; it bothers me a lot because it's always very far from the stage and behind the bar.”
Among other negative experiences for people with disabilities, the podcast cites the lack of organization at the entrance, the lack of adequate portable toilets, and the inadequate visibility of the stage, preventing a good experience for this audience. Despite the necessary criticisms, Renato also points out what could be done to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, something that, with improvements, would draw the attention of this audience that is often neglected at concerts and festivals.
According to the podcaster, the German version of the festival, as well as other European events, treats the issue of accessibility with more attention, and even though it is not an obligation for the producers, they offer an adequate structure.
The next edition of Summer Breeze Brazil is confirmed for 2024. Next year, the event will last three days, from April 26th to 28th, Friday to Sunday. Learn more here .
