Killswitch Engage

With the sun already low, to everyone's delight, Killswitch Engage took to the Hot Stage, as the festival headed towards its final shows of the 2024 edition.

One song that deserves to be highlighted in the band's performance during their time in São Paulo is "The Arms Of Sorrow," from the album As Daylight Dies Jesse Leach 's voice sounds clear.

The band's sound showcases the contrast between Leach's different vocal interpretations. At times, it sounds melodic, with elements characteristic of the 2000s, but at others, he uses aggressive guttural vocals, creating a striking difference throughout the track.

One example of this is "The Signal Fire," a track in collaboration with Howard Jones , which is part of the album Atonement , released in 2019. The Killswitch Engage show featured pyrotechnic elements that added an even more interesting detail to the group's performance.

With “Unleash”, the band delivered a top-notch performance, especially from drummer Justin Foley , who executed the track with the necessary power and force.

During several of the band's songs, the audience moved around, forming the famous punk mosh pits, and "Hate By Design," from Incarnate (2016), was no different. It prompted the vocalist to descend from the stage and go to the barrier of the pit closest to the stage, and this wasn't the only time he did so during the night.

Some of Killswitch Engage's tracks feature only guttural vocals, and these are the most powerful and fast-paced, because those with more serene vocal parts tend to have more emotionally charged melodic elements.

The standout feature of "Rose Of Sharyn" is, without a doubt, the vocalist, who delivers powerful vocals that truly seem to emanate from within, with great force. The song features beautiful and moving lyrics.

Without even pausing, "Strength of The Mind," also from Incarnate , followed and drew applause from the audience.

Featuring the iconic heart with nails that illustrates the cover of the album The End Of Heartache (2004), the song of the same name led the band towards the end of their setlist.

If the audience thought that "My Last Serenade" would be a quiet ballad, meant to slow down the pace of the setlist, they were mistaken.

To end the show, in homage to one of the greatest names in metal history, Ronnie James Dio , they performed a cover version of "Holy Diver," with some differences from the original, but nothing too groundbreaking.

Despite this, it's a good dedication, and because it's a great classic, more people knew it, leading them to sing along with the band.

Although the band is good, their show ends up becoming a bit tiring. With a similar structure to the songs, some even sound alike, giving a certain impression of having already heard something else at the same show.

But their performance is far from bad. It features musicians who play well, are communicative with the audience, and seemed happy to be performing that show.

In a declaration of love for the Brazilian audience, the band bid farewell to the sound of "Careless Whisper." Yes, the song with George Michael .

Anthrax

In one of the most anticipated shows of the night, Anthrax made their return to Brazil in grand style, opening with the introductory track from Among The Living — one of the best albums released in 1987 — which also shares the same name as the album.

The track is an absolute sonic explosion, prompting the audience to sing along to the final part of the song.

True to the song's name, "Caught In A Mosh" followed, with the audience already forming the obligatory punk circle pit found at any metal show.

With legendary guitarist Scott Ian tearing it up on the riff, "Madhouse" from Spreading The Disease (1985) once again showcased the sheer power of this thrash metal group. As one of the most classic bands in the genre, they are part of the famous Big 4.

Asking if the fans loved thrash metal, Scott Ian announced “Metal Thrashing Mad,” which is part of one of the most classic albums, not only within the genre but in metal as a whole. Featuring a simply phenomenal guitar solo by Jonathan Donais , the track becomes even more vibrant with the frenetic flashing lights on stage.

Before the next song, vocalist Joey Belladonna Charlie Benante 's drumming .

Another important detail is that it also engages the audience. The song's catchy chorus only uses the letters of the song's title—even though the rest of its name is unpronounceable.

“Keep It In The Family” is another live spectacle. The heavy track from Persistence Of Time (1990) gains even more power when performed live, with yet another addictive and well-rhythmed guitar riff.

The rhythm of the music changes, with Benante's participation becoming faster and more prominent.

With the excellent introduction of "Antisocial" from State Of Euphoria (1987), the band had the audience shouting the easily memorable chorus of the track, in another fast-paced performance by Anthrax.

Summer Breeze Brazil featured several special guest appearances from musicians from other bands during their shows. When Andreas Kisser on stage, the audience was thrilled, and together they performed "I Am The Law" in a performance that can only be described as iconic. Seeing two metal legends on stage together is truly moving.

The band demonstrated why they are one of the best names in metal, with a performance full of technique and speed. A true spectacle.

With bells ringing and heavy guitar, “In The End”, from Worship Music (2013), came next, featuring a great guitar solo.

Spreading The Disease fans , “Medusa” continued the setlist of Anthrax's show at the festival.

With a heavy bass riff, played by Frank Bello , "Got The Time" is a fast-paced song that doesn't give you much time to think, just sing along.

“AIR” preceded “Indians”, bringing a powerful and iconic drum line.

Anthrax is made up of iconic musicians who have built legendary careers within metal and, tonight, delivered a show that would please any fan.

Extremely technically skilled, the band complements each other and delivers a performance worthy of praise.

This performance showed, to those who didn't already know, that the band is among the best names in metal history.
