Ricky Myers, from Discorge, is filling in for Frank on the current Suffocation tour
Terrance Hobbs, guitarist for Suffocation, confirmed that the band is planning a farewell tour for vocalist Frank Mullen.
Frank has been in the band since its formation in 1988, but due to his work commitments, he hasn't been able to join the band on all tours. "I believe Frank is planning to stop completely ," the guitarist replied. “He wants to do a farewell tour, but it’s so difficult for him, as well as for us, because there are so many places, he can’t just stop for three months and do South America, Australia, Europe, North America, Japan, go to all these different countries. So, right now we’re working really hard trying to figure out what would be the best places he can do in the short amount of time he has. So, eventually, he’ll come, and hopefully never. Because we all love Frank – he’s one of my best friends, he’s always been a part of Suffocation while we were doing it together and after 30 years… It’s not like someone, ‘oh, he just joined the band and he didn’t do a show, so now you kick him out and that’s it.’ No. Frank has been here for 30 years. Now he’s my business partner, it’s a more adult friendship. As I said, as time goes by, there’s a lot more responsibility for him and for everyone, we’re just musicians, we can play in a band all the time and play guitar or drums. Frank is putting his lungs out there, and at the end of the "On the day, he has headaches and things like that, which, in turn, is making it difficult for him to do the kind of touring that a band like us needs to do to get out there in the world and get people to hear us."
He continued: “So, yes, we are working on a farewell tour for Frank, and it will be sad if he decides to go, but I hope he doesn’t. And that’s still up in the air for me. But I will never let him want to go. He’s a good guy, and I wish him the best in everything he’s doing now. I wish him the best for his family and his work. I hope we can bring him back to say goodbye to you all, if that’s really what he wants to do.”
Despite not being able to tour much, Frank Mullen was always considered an official member of the band, and recorded all the albums. Ricky Myers, from Discorde, is filling in for Frank on the current tour.
