Stratovarius has always been a band with lyrics heavily focused on mysticism, but also on many environmental causes.
Today we're going to talk a little about the classic "Paradise," and the message the song tries to convey.
This song is on the album Visions , which is entirely based on the prophecies of Nostradamus .
The lyrics refer to what is happening in the world, the cruelty, inequality, wars, etc.
In this particular song, the band addresses the fact that every day we lose more of our paradise because we fight amongst ourselves and do nothing to improve our nature and our planet.
"Late at night, I find myself again
wondering and watching TV
I can't believe what's on the screen
Something I wouldn't want to see"
In this excerpt, the protagonist is probably watching some news, or perhaps a documentary, and seeing the atrocities committed by humankind.
“Many rare species will soon become extinct
And there will be a food shortage
Why do we have to be so selfish?
We have to change our attitude”
Something clear and simple to understand, but not understood by most of us.
Research estimates that by 2050, around 1 million species of animals and plants could become extinct on the planet.
“Mother Nature is crying in pain
We are to blame”
Another totally self-explanatory excerpt from the band.
“Like birds in the sky
We are flying so high
Without making
Any kind of sacrifice
We have so little time
To erase this crime
Or we will lose
Our Paradise”
Probably the idea is that we are flying high, in terms of technology and material capacity, however, we have no empathy whatsoever, either for people in more vulnerable situations or even for the planet we live on.
And time is passing, soon the bill for all this disregard we have will arrive, and it will be too late.
