Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's relationship

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were already in a relationship before they both joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. They met in the 1960s, when Nicks was in her senior year of high school, and joined a band called Fritz in 1967.

The couple ended their relationship in 1976, shortly before Fleetwood Mac entered the studio to produce what would become the most emblematic album of their career, Rumours Christine and John McVie 's divorce , as well as friction and intrigue among the band members themselves.

Fleetwood Mac reunited several times over the decades for tours and special performances, until Lindsey Buckingham's official departure from the band in 2018, amidst talks of a new tour. At the time, Buckingham claimed that Nicks had given him an ultimatum and demanded he leave the group. Three years later, in 2021, the singer-songwriter denied the incident .

“To be perfectly clear, I didn’t fire him, I didn’t ask for him to be fired, I didn’t demand that he be fired. Honestly, I quit. I promptly removed myself from the band and from a situation that I consider toxic to my well-being. I couldn’t take it anymore. If the band continued without me, then so be it,” Nicks wrote in a statement.

The singer also stated that she had "very specific reasons" spanning "from 1968 to 2018" for not wanting to work with her ex-partner.
