Besides the musical quality and absolute success of the album Rumours (1977), Fleetwood Mac is also remembered for its constant breakups and reunions over the years. This time, however, it seems that the estrangement between the band members will be permanent.

In an Mojo magazine , singer Stevie Nicks ruled out any possibility of the band's return. Due to the death of her bandmate Christine McVie in November 2022, Nicks stated that she sees no purpose in reuniting Fleetwood Mac. "Without Christine, it's impossible," she said. "There's no chance of Fleetwood Mac ever coming back. Without her, it simply wouldn't work."

Christine McVie left the band in 1998. Following this, the remaining members – Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood , John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham – continued as a quartet until Christine's return in 2014. However, constant arguments between Nicks and Buckingham ultimately led to the guitarist's dismissal in 2018.

Later in the interview, Nicks also shared other reasons why she doesn't think a Fleetwood Mac reunion would work. Although her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham has improved since his departure from the band, the singer believes her former colleague wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace of touring.

“Even if I thought I could work with Lindsey again, he’s had some health issues. It’s not up to me to say, but I’m not sure if Lindsey could do the kind of touring that Fleetwood Mac does, where you’re out for a year and a half. It’s so demanding,” she states.
