Tyler created Janie's Fund

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will receive a United Nations humanitarian award at a ceremony on December 3rd in New York for his philanthropic work.

Tyler receives the award for his work with the foundation he created, Janie's Fund, which, in partnership with the organization Youth Villages, assists young girls who are victims of abuse and neglect.

Tyler comments: “As a father of three daughters, a son, and now a grandfather, it breaks my heart to know that every year in America alone, 700,000 children are victims of serious abuse and neglect, and that 68,000 are sexually abused. All abuse is wrong – verbal, physical, sexual, or emotional. We need better ways to help and support our children. Too many children are being abused, and we want to change that.”

One of the UN committee members commented on Tyler's selection: “He may seem like an odd choice. But the more we've learned about Janie's Fund, the more convinced we've become that Tyler is the person who can impact and inspire millions to fight against violence against girls and women, not only in the US but around the world.”
