Steve Harwell , former lead singer of Smash Mouth , has died at the age of 56. The information was confirmed by Robert Hayes , the band's manager.

With Harwell, Smash Mouth – formed in 1994 – released hits such as “Walkin' on the Sun”, “All Star” and “Then The Morning Comes”. The musician left the band in January 2022, announcing his retirement.

In an Instagram post , Smash Mouth wrote: “Steve Harwell was a true and original American. A magnificent character who soared to the heavens like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and passionate determination to reach the pinnacle of pop stardom.”

"And the fact that he achieved this almost impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments even more remarkable. His only tools were his irresistible charm and charisma, his fearless and reckless ambition.".
