In an interview with a Spanish newspaper, Iron Maiden frontman Steve Harris spoke about bands that charge to have another band as an opening act. According to the bassist, Iron Maiden would never do that and never will
"That's because we can. Anyone who's in the position Maiden is in, or any band that can take another band on tour, I think if you can help other people, it's not much effort.".
What irritates me and what I hate is when people charge bands to open for them. I hate that. I've never done that, never done it with Maiden and I never will, with Maiden or British Lion, because to me that's just wrong. A band should have at least some expenses covered to play a show, and they should never pay anyone to play, I've always been very against that. I've always tried to help people. I think that's very good.
I feel like I've had a fantastic career in music, and I've worked very hard, but maybe I've also had a bit of luck along the way. I don't know, but at the end of the day it's always good to be able to give something back. And I feel that a bit with British Lion too because those guys in the band are very talented, they really deserve to be recognized for it and they haven't had that until now. And they're getting attention now, very rightfully so. And I love that.”.
