Iron Maiden has an extensive list of songs never performed live . After the highly anticipated debut of "Alexander The Great" on the Future Past Tour , currently touring Europe, Steve Harris revealed which B-side track he would like to play live.
With four decades in the business, the band has released 17 studio albums, so it's natural that many "obscure" tracks have never been included in any setlist. In a recent interview with Metal Hammer , the Maiden founder mentioned another track that is almost never played and would be his personal choice for live performances.
“There are a few tracks that would be nice to revisit from time to time, I suppose. I think 'Only The Good Die Young' is a really good song and it would be nice to play it,” he told the magazine.
The song “Only The Good Die Young” is the eighth and final track on the 1988 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Metal Hammer , Steve Harris stated that the band has played this track “a few times,” but this is not reflected in the data compiled by Setlist.fm , nor are there any recordings of these performances on YouTube.
“It would be cool to play this one, maybe. It’s a bit more of one of those obscure songs. But you know how it is… What would you leave out [of the shows]?! That’s the problem. So many songs, so many albums,” he explained.
Finally, Harris also commented on the criteria for including (or not including) a song in Iron Maiden's shows. “This might sound very direct and brutal, but we don't do it for the audience. We do it for our own benefit first. We have to feel comfortable with what we're playing and enjoy it, and then we hope the fans like it. That's always been our position until the end. We don't do a census of 'Oh, does everyone like this or that?', or anything like that. We don't do that,” he said.
Iron Maiden's The Future Past Tour has a of this year with shows throughout Europe, featuring a setlist focused on the albums Senjutsu (2021) and Somewhere In Time (1986). Rumors suggest Iron Maiden will be playing in Brazil in 2024, possibly in the first half of the year.
