In Wikimetal Iron Maiden 's leader and founder , Steve Harris, was voted the best bassist with 37% of the votes. Cliff Burton of Metallica and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath , with 24% and 16% respectively.

Self-taught, Steve Harris plays a Fender Precision Bass and cites John Paul Jones ( Led Zeppelin ), Chris Squire ( Yes ), John Entwistle ( The Who ), and Pete Way ( UFO ) as his influences. Interviewed by Bass Player, Steve Harris said he doesn't like playing bass solos at shows because he finds them boring, and explained that there are only three bassists who play interesting solos: Billy Sheehan , Rinus Gerritsen of Golden Earring , and Hellmut Hattler of the band Kraan .

In a poll conducted by Loudwire last year, Harris was also voted the best bassist in metal. The musician was also previously voted the best instrumentalist in Iron Maiden in a Wikimetal poll in 2013.
