In a recent interview for the Hook Rocks Ratt vocalist Stephen Pearcy spoke about the current Mötley Crüe , which includes guitarist John 5. He pointed out that this wouldn't be the real Crüe and that without founding guitarist Mick Mars , the band wouldn't have what it takes to function.
"Mötley bringing John 5 into the band, no disrespect intended, isn't Mötley Crüe." In the interview ( via Ultimate Classic Rock ), Stephen Pearcy also commented on how Ratt decided to move on when guitarist Robbin Crosby left the band in 1991, and that the same thing is happening with Mötley Crüe.
“Ratt without Robbin – I said when he wasn’t playing: ‘This isn’t going to work. We can do whatever we want, we can try as much as we want. It’s not going to be the same. It never was and it never will be.’”
Mick Mars retired from the band in 2023 after a few farewell shows, but Crüe decided to continue, inviting John 5 to perform, and now the band is preparing new material with him.
Ratt reunion and celebration of their first album
Contrary to his previous comments about Mötley Crüe, Stephen Pearcy has scheduled several dates in 2024 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of the classic album Out of the Cellar (1984). According to him, the intention was to reunite the other members for these special performances, but none of them showed interest.
“If you’re not into it, you’re not into it,” Pearcy explained on the podcast. “I can only have respect for Warren [ DeMartini ], and he doesn’t need to participate. None of these guys need to. I don’t need to. It’s just a matter of where your thinking is at, I think. I have a different mindset than my guys. And that’s where the responsibility ends. I can’t force them.”
Even while respecting his colleagues, the vocalist still doesn't understand their decision. For Pearcy, the strength of what they released is more important than full pockets, and the album was the most important thing they ever did: “That should be respected. But that's how things are.”.
