This week's playlist features an essential selection from Wikimetal members: Daniel Dystyler

From Iron Maiden to Van Halen, from Mercyful Fate to Viper, and from Evanescence to Paramore; check out the playlist from the co-founder of Wikimetal!

In a team that lives and breathes music, thankfully, not everyone has similar musical tastes.

Wikimetal members will curate the songs, artists, and albums that best define their current musical taste. Continuing this selection process is Wikimetal co-founder, Daniel Dystyler!

“In 1984, I was 15 years old. And I was obsessed with only 2 bands: The Beatles and Queen ,” says Daniel while putting together the selection. “Then something happened that changed my life: Iron Maiden released Powerslave and because of that I saw the music video for 'Aces High'. And everything changed. That day the meme 'no, it's not just a phase' was born…”

This playlist represents the journey I've taken over the last (almost) 40 years. The discoveries I've made. The passions and "obsessions" that were born, grew, and stayed with me for life.

The list, obviously, therefore begins with Maiden but unfolds, more or less in the same order that throughout my life I discovered the bands that became my absolute favorites. Each song actually represents a journey in itself. For each song, it's worth taking a dive into the band's discography, their history, their releases.

– Did I miss any bands?
Many. But I wanted to limit myself to 100 songs from 100 bands, otherwise, besides me, who's going to listen to those 7 hours?

Is it in perfect chronological order?
Of course not (but more or less);

Is Fito Paes metal, by any chance?
No… but he's more metal than a lot of people out there who call themselves metal. Cher explains a bit about the subject George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse

Are there any songs I'm a little embarrassed by?
Are we talking about Bon Jovi, My Chemical Romance , and Paramore

The important thing is to be happy.

I intentionally left the last 50 songs (the "bottom" half of the playlist) with only songs from the last decade, that is, from 2010 onwards. And in particular, I left the last 20 songs with only releases from this year, 2021. It's a gift for flat-earthers and deniers who say that 'rock is dead'.

That's it: 100 songs. 100 bands. 1 lifetime… Actually, it's half a lifetime.
Ugh… #OptimismIsEverything… #Deluded… hahaha…

Anyone who wants to relive this 40-year journey with me, just press play… And have fun.”
