After 40 years, Spinal Tap will get a second movie.

Once again directed by Rob Reiner and featuring original members of the band Spinal Tap, the film will celebrate the project's 40th anniversary

The mockumentary This is Spinal Tap (1984) will get a sequel 40 years after the original film. Titled “It's Spinal Tap II”, the new work will again be directed by Rob Reiner , who also plays filmmaker Marty DiBergi , in addition to Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Nigel Tufnel respectively in the original roles of David St. Hubbins, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest, members of the fictional band that gives the film its name. Ric Parnell , who played Mick Shrimpton, sadly passed away earlier this month at the age of 70.

In an interview with Deadline , Reiner said that the project will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original film. Therefore, the premiere of It's Spinal Tap II was announced for March 19, 2024.

“Hardly a day goes by without someone saying, ‘Why don’t you make another one?’ For so many years, we said, ‘nah.’ Until we had the right idea of ​​how to do it. You don’t just want to do it for the sake of doing it. You want to honor the first one and take the story further.” The director also promised some special appearances.
