A statue of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell was found vandalized last Thursday morning, the 20th.

The figure, made in homage to the artist and donated by Chris's widow, Vicky , is part of the exterior of the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, Washington, the singer's hometown. It was defaced with white paint, staining various parts of the statue.

“My kids and I are heartbroken to hear about the vandalism of Chris’s statue at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle,” Vicky wrote on Instagram . “The statue is not just a work of art, but a tribute to Chris, his unparalleled musical legacy, and everything he stood for. It represents Chris, who is loved not only in Seattle, but throughout the world.”

“In dealing with this hate and destruction, we are once again grateful to the fans who have spoken out and shown immense support and love. It lifted our hearts to hear that fans brought tools and tried to clean up vandalism that breaks our hearts. The statue will be restored. Hate will not win. Chris is a son of Seattle!”, he concluded.

The motives for the vandalism have not yet been discovered.
