Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil believes the album that was in development with the band in 2017 will be released in the future.

In an interview with Rolling Stone , the guitarist stated: "Our goal has always been to complete this work."

The album's release was impacted by a legal dispute between the remaining members of Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell Chris Cornell 's widow . In 2023, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement, but the album's completion still faces obstacles.

Despite the setbacks, Thayil made it clear that he wants this album to be released: “Our goal and objective has always been to finish that [album],” Thayil noted. “I probably have enough OCD to not want to leave something unfinished or incomplete like that, so I think the more we dedicate ourselves to our work and our catalog… I think everyone in the band feels that way. I'm not just dedicated to my work, but to the collective work and, in this specific case, to Chris's work.”

Furthermore, the guitarist believes the project would be "a great gift for the fans" and added, "And I think about it, and I don't know how strange this sounds, but I feel like it's a gift for Chris too."

The last album released during Cornell's lifetime with Soundgarden was King Animal , in 2012.
