Soulfly released "Scouring The Vile" this Thursday, the 9th, a new single from the album Totem , which will be released on August 5th by Nuclear Blast.
“Scourting The Vile,” which features a guest appearance by John Tardy of Obituary , is a special track for the group. Max Cavalera , the band's frontman, said during an interview with The Bogcast that the song is about his experience with cancer in his close circle. “We lost so many people to cancer. I remember when I was writing the album, LG [ Petrov ] from Entombed passed away, and Chuck [ Schuldiner ] from Death [passed away 20 years ago], and also family members I lost to cancer. And I was like, 'I want to write a song against cancer – a song that tells cancer to fuck off.'”
The song follows the first single, “Superstition”, which you can listen to below, after “Scourting The Vile”. Below you will also find the cover art and tracklist for the album Totem .
The successor to Ritual (2018) was recorded at Platinum Underground in Mesa, Arizona by John Aquilino and Arthur Rizk with assistance from John Powers. Max produced the work alongside Rizk.
In addition to John Tardy, the album features special appearances by John Powers ( Eternal Champion ) and Chris Ulsh ( Power Trip ).
