Formed by the cream of the world's metal scene and with their recently released single "Goodbye Divinity" riding high, the supergroup Sons Of Apollo announces their return to Brazil in 2020. The main show will be on April 18th at Tom Brasil, and general information will be released in the full event details.
In early 2017, rumors began circulating about a new secret project involving former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian. Finally, on August 1st, the duo revealed the details to the rest of the world, introducing their new band, Sons of Apollo.
Since then, they have played many powerful shows around the globe, and the expected success has propelled the group to a higher level in the music market. Alongside Portnoy and Sherinian are guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal (ex-Guns N' Roses) , bassist Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) , and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) .
Their debut album, titled Psychotic Symphony , was produced by the duo Portnoy and Sherinian, also affectionately known as The Del Fuvio Brothers , a nickname given to them over 20 years ago during their time together in Dream Theater. The successful album was later released as a DVD recorded in Bulgaria, and subsequently other singles followed.
The band Sons of Apollo formed very organically, as Portnoy explains:
“Derek and I reunited shortly after I left Dream Theater in 2010 and put together an all-instrumental band with Billy Sheehan and Tony MacAlpine . That was my first time working with Derek since the 90s when he was in Dream Theater, and it was great to work with him again. Since that tour, which was really just a one-off thing, he nudged me to start a real, original, full-time band. I didn't have the time for it at the time, as I had many other things going on in my life and career.”
The time was finally right to take the bait and put a band together.”
Touring has become a constant for Sons Of Apollo, who promise an even more energetic show in 2020.
