VIPER Tuesdays is back for its 7th season!
April 30, 1989 marked VIPER's last show before entering the studio to record what would become one of the most iconic heavy metal albums in Brazilian history, Theatre Of Fate .
The farewell performance took place at Dama Xoc, a traditional concert venue in São Paulo and a familiar place for VIPER, who played there several times. At the time, the quintet consisted of Andre Matos (vocals), Felipe Machado and Yves Passarell (guitars), Pit Passarell (bass), and Val Santos (drums).
The show opened with two songs from the new album that were still unreleased at the time: "Prelude To Oblivion" and "To Live Again." In addition to this unusual opening, the setlist also featured "End Of A Fate," which in the studio became "Theatre Of Fate" and gave its name to VIPER's second album.
The show also features the track that would later open Theatre of Fate , “At Least A Chance” – which was played live under the name “At Least The Time” – as well as another song that would only appear on the Vipera Sapiens years later.
“It’s always great to revisit shows from that era. Not only for the memories and recollections, or to see how young and genuinely close we were, but also to understand how the band’s creative process worked,” says guitarist and founder, Felipe Machado.
"You can tell that some of the songs played at this show were later recorded at Theatre Of Fate , but in a different way. And you can see how happy we were, playing a packed show for a super cool audience."
"Who would have thought that after that show, we would go into the studio and record an album that would change so many people's lives? It was an important album for the history of Brazilian metal. And we were there, without much of an idea of the transformative thing that would come right after that show," concludes Felipe Machado.
All these previously unreleased relics can now be seen in the 7th season of VIPER Tuesdays, which features the 11 songs from that historic show at Dama Xoc in 1989, and which ended with VIPER playing a legendary cover, the perfect way to say goodbye to their loyal audience and head into the studio.
