Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke have announced that they will not be part of the project.
Earlier this week, it was announced that three members of The Smiths would be reuniting for a series of concerts in the United Kingdom.
The tour would be a reconfiguration of the iconic Manchester group, since only Mike Joyce (drums), Andy Rourke (bass) and Craig Gannon (guitar) would participate, with Morrissey and Johnny Marr missing to complete the lineup.
Hours after the announcement of the trio's reunion, a representative for Rourke contacted Rolling Stone magazine revealing that the bassist had not agreed to do the shows , contradicting the statement that the press received with a quote from Rourke about the reunion.
Furthermore, the news came out in the same week that Rourke lost his bandmate, Dolores O'Riordan . The Cranberries vocalist was also part of the band DARK with Rourke and Olek Koretsky.
“I was very upset that a false announcement was made in my name the week I am mourning my dear friend Dolores O'Riordan ,” he told Rolling Stone.
"At no point did I let anyone speak for me. Nothing was confirmed, approved, or contracted by me or my team ," he added.
Shortly after, Joyce posted a statement on her Facebook page revealing that she would also not be participating in the reunion, as she accepted the project believing she would be working alongside her two colleagues.
“Without Andy, an essential part of why I agreed to do this, I made this difficult decision. I still believe in the shows and the concept. It’s a great idea and I wish them all the success they deserve.”
Following both statements, the production company Bad Production Ltd confirmed that the meeting had been cancelled.
The shows were scheduled to take place in London, Manchester, and Edinburgh in June and July before embarking on a full UK tour.
