Adrian Smith and Ritchie Kotzen released "Scars" today, the 24th, the second single from their first collaborative album, Smith/Kotzen . The song follows the first single, "Taking My Chances" – click here to pre-save the duo's album.
The track is described by Adrian as a song that “starts with a dreamy introduction and then comes in heavy,” a return to the blues rock of the 70s, which the duo found particularly fun to work with. The 70s atmosphere is a major inspiration for the entire album.
“I remember that Scars was one of the songs we wrote right at the beginning of our process,” Kotzen recalls. “There’s something melancholic and mysterious happening in that track that I find quite captivating. It would be a great song to extend in a live performance and enhance with guitar improvisations between the two of us.”
The track also comes with a delicate black and white music video, once again filmed on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Performances by the band took place in their home studios in London and Los Angeles, while the exterior shots juxtapose the rugged beauty of the British Jurassic coast with the historic Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific coastline near Malibu.
