Smashing Pumpkins reinforces the possibility of a return with a mysterious action.

The group updated its website with a countdown timer.

Smashing Pumpkins fans have a new reason to be excited: the band's website has been updated with a countdown timer that ends next Thursday, February 15th. There's still no confirmation about what the timer announces, but there's been much talk about a possible reunion of the original members.

Last January, vocalist Billy Corgan spoke about the possibility of recording again with his former bandmates in an interview with the website Alternative Nation. “I just talked to [guitarist] James Iha and things are going well for us to play together again. We're talking, we'll see.”

But Corgan also made it clear that he doesn't expect the Smashing Pumpkins to last forever. “The thing is, to be honest, we want to play again, but the world has changed too much since the last time we played. A reunion is always a little strange because people have expectations. So I think if we're going to do it, we'll do it to make people happy and not go against what they'd like to hear. But my interest in it is kind of limited. I'm not going to go ahead with it for 14 years.”

Rumors of a possible band reunion were reinforced when Corgan posted a photo on his Instagram in the studio with Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Now we just have to wait until Thursday the 15th to get news from the Smashing Pumpkins!
