The Smashing Pumpkins opened a guitarist position to anyone who might be interested and received over 10,000 resumes.
The decision came after the departure of Jeff Schroeder , who had been in the band for over ten years and left the group in October 2023 .
The search for an additional musician came in the form of a statement on social media , in the same way that the band communicated about the high demand.
"The band received over 10,000 applications for the additional guitarist position. Currently, eight people are working full-time to review each one," wrote the Smashing Pumpkins.
