Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson was involved in an accident this Friday, the 23rd, and was hospitalized with burns to his face, neck, and arms.
The news was announced by the musician himself through social media. On his Instagram profile , Wilson posted a video of more than 5 minutes, recorded by himself, where he appears in a hospital bed, connected to monitoring equipment.
In the video, the DJ reassures fans, saying he's okay and that he "will be" okay. He explains that he suffered "an explosion in the face" that left him with burns on his cheeks, eyebrows, and lips. The most seriously affected area appears to be his arms, which, according to Wilson, are "pretty bad."
In a second video posted later , Sid Wilson says he is being transferred to another hospital, with a specialized burns treatment unit, and reassures fans again. “I’m here talking to you guys, so it’s nothing terrible,” he says amidst facial expressions of pain. “The worst part is my arms. They’re going to shave my head, so say goodbye to long hair.”
In an official statement released through their official social media channels, Slipknot announced that Wilson is "recovering alongside his family" and will be playing with the band at the Rocklahoma , which takes place next weekend.
The band and the DJ did not go into detail about what caused the accident, but posts on his wife Kelly Osbourne show the couple in a rural area near a controlled burn of vegetation and dry branches. Hours later, Osbourne posted a video from the hospital, with her husband in the background, where she comments: “This is why you shouldn’t mess with controlled burns. He literally caught fire, absolutely blew everything up.”
The practice of controlled burns consists of the planned, monitored, and controlled use of fire, typically used to burn forest debris and reduce the risk of wildfires.
