Last Sunday, the 1st, Sid Wilson of Slipknot played his first show after suffering serious burns from a campfire . Wilson was at his farm in Iowa, where he lives with his girlfriend Kelly Osbourne and their two-year-old son, Sidney.
Speaking about the performance, which took place at the Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, Oklahoma, Wilson told TMZ : “I was basically bedridden until then. So, I wasn’t practicing or anything. And the skin is firmer now, so I have to keep exercising my hand to make sure the skin doesn’t heal as tightly as it normally does.”
“So, when I was practicing backstage—I practice for, like, three to five hours straight before playing. So, I got—what did I get? About two hours? Probably about two hours, because of the logistics of getting to the show. So, I could immediately feel, like, how much firmer the skin was around my hand and joint. My left hand isn’t as bad as my right. My right arm and hand are pretty bad. New skin has grown underneath and is peeling now. We cut away most of the skin,” he said.
Regarding his recovery, Wilson commented on the importance of having Kelly by his side: “Kelly has been great throughout the whole process. She’s been the go-between for the nurses and me. So she’s Nurse Kelly. [Laughs] She put me on such a rigorous regime of just changing everything and cleaning everything, wiping everything down, making sure I’m shaving every day, just all the steps they told me to do and then some. She goes further, harder.”
“My face healed incredibly fast. They said it would heal quickly. And now it’s just pink where everything was. I have a little bit of acne on my neck and cheek, but overall everything is going very well. What’s difficult now is being in the sunlight. So I kind of feel like a vampire.”

The accident
Last week, Wilson told Fox News about the campfire that caused his injuries: “A few nights ago, I lit it and let it burn. Then, the next day, I went to check to see, you know, how much was left, if there was anything at all. And there was a fair amount of debris around the side still left, so I, like an idiot, [did] what I shouldn't have done, but I added some gas.”
After alerting Kelly, Sid was rushed to an emergency room before being transferred to a larger hospital in Des Moines.
When Wilson revealed his initial injuries — which included blisters and red, inflamed skin all over his arms, cheeks, and even his lips — he told fans that he planned to recover quickly so he could join his bandmates on their tour.
Slipknot then released the following statement on social media : “Our brother Sid Wilson was in an accident today and suffered burns all over his body. He is recovering with his family and will still be joining us on stage at Rocklahoma next weekend. He thanks everyone for their well wishes and we’ll see you soon.”
