Shawn “Clown” Crahan , percussionist for Slipknot , said that the band's seventh album, The End So Far (2022), may have been their last full-length album, shifting their focus solely to releasing singles . The End So Far , released in September, marked the end of their contract with Roadrunner Records , which began in 1998.

In an interview with NME , the musician explains that albums are already outdated with the success of streaming and that this new method explores artistic freedom and the love of music more deeply, without the concerns of business.

“I always thought, ‘What would it be like if Slipknot were big enough not to be tied to albums?’ Instead of waiting two years for 12 songs, I’ll give you one song every month. And it will go through all the filters: the band, Corey Taylor , professional mixing… no step will be skipped, the usual work. We want to do this because we think it’s time for you, our fan, to have it all. You love us as artists, you know we have our filters. Imagine what we can do when we’re free to use our ‘brushes’ however we want,” he commented.

Releasing singles throughout the year is currently a very common strategy among pop artists. Shawn believes that singles increase the possibility of collaborations with other artists, since communication and decision-making are more direct and clear, without interference from teams.

Vocalist Corey Taylor reacted to the band member's comments during Monster-Mania Con . He said it's difficult to get so many people on the same page. He also said he's excited and open to new ideas. "But the cool thing is that we've kind of established our history, so whatever comes next will naturally be something we want to do," he stated (via Blabbermouth ).
