Slipknot's mysterious keyboardist gets a nickname chosen by fans

A group of fans held a vote on Reddit to decide what to call the new member

Slipknot has a new member and, as usual, fans seem to have reached a consensus on what the mysterious keyboardist's nickname will be .

In June, the band announced the replacement for longtime member Craig Jones . A long-standing Slipknot tradition is not immediately revealing the identity of its masked members, allowing fans to have fun creating nicknames for the new musicians.

According to Loudwire , the "maggots" (the name for Slipknot's fanbase) seem to have settled on the nickname Greg Bones . The origin of the name is still unclear, but it may come from a certain sound similarity to "Craig Jones". The nickname was the most voted in a Reddit The Gimp , Leatherface , Zipper Dude , and Hoodie Guy were also competing .

This was the same channel that nicknamed Michael Pfaff " Tortilla Man" because of the shape of his mask. Pfaff's identity took three years to be officially revealed, although fans had been speculating about the correct answer for some time.

The same thing seems to be happening with the now-nicknamed Greg Bones. It's been just over a month since the keyboardist started touring with Slipknot, but it seems fans have been quick to search for his mysterious identity this time.

Due to a slip-up by Tortilla Man himself , fans were able to read the letters "Za" labeling one of the band's outfits backstage. This further fueled suspicions that the new keyboardist is Zac Baird , who has previously worked with bands like Korn and Evanescence .

Since the musician's identity may take years to be revealed, what prevails for now is the nickname that fans decide to use. Will Greg Bones stick?
