Slipknot: Creator of Corey Taylor's mask speaks about criticism

When the vocalist's mask was revealed, several memes appeared on the internet

With the band's new cycle approaching, Slipknot has swapped out all of their masks, and Corey Taylor hasn't received the best reviews.

Many didn't appreciate the simplicity of the vocalist's mask, who usually sports the most elaborate and frightening masks in the group. Tom Savini, the artist who designed the musician's mask, spoke during an interview with Revolver about the criticism he has received.

“There was a lot of negative reaction at first. I received a copy of 'Kerrang!' magazine with Corey talking about me, but the fans reacted: 'Savini? What a load of crap, my sister could do better than that.' One even cut up a milk carton to imitate it. Despite that, the mask seems excellent to me,” he said.

Savini, who has worked on films such as Dawn of the Dead, Friday the 13th, Day of the Dead , and other horror classics, also spoke about how he met Taylor and ended up creating his mask.

“I was on a plane with my wife, looking at old photos, and there was one of her with Corey from 2014. My assistant talked to him backstage at a show, and Corey mentioned he needed a mask. My assistant said, ‘Hey, I work with Tom Savini.’ The next thing I know, Corey Taylor is at my house, playing with my cats. We made the mask, and it turned out insane.”
