The use of masks was already a constant in Slipknot long before any sign of COVID-19. The band gained notoriety for their almost theatrical performances and for the habit of creating new, custom masks for each new album they produce.
The old custom may come in handy in the coming years, especially now that percussionist Clown has stated that "with or without COVID," he "will never stop wearing a mask."
In an interview with Forbes , Clown justified his decision by saying that he has seen enough of the world to know that people don't maintain good hygiene habits. "I've been in this industry for 25 years and people are disgusting everywhere in the world," he stated. "We live in a dirty world where people don't wash their hands. They wipe their noses and then use their hands to open doors and you touch that."
"I have four children and I know what it's like to send your child to school and they come back sick, and you get sick too," she concluded.
Amidst the mourning for the death of former bandmate and co-founder Joey Jordison , Slipknot is preparing to release a new album , and although they haven't revealed many details, Corey Taylor recently stated that the album is "an expansion" of its predecessor, We Are Not Your Kind (2019), while Clown himself stated that he allowed himself to be "very creative" during the songwriting process.
