Shawn “Clown” Crahan , percussionist for Slipknot Metal Hammer magazine that there was a lot of tension within the group during the recording of their second studio album, Iowa .
“When we made Iowa , we hated ourselves,” he said. “We hated the world. The world hated us.” The musician recounted that the transition they made from working horrible jobs to becoming the most famous metal band in the world was complicated and the process was difficult.
“We were at odds with each other,” Corey Taylor in the same interview. “I don’t know if it was envy or just insecurity, but we were thinking things like, ‘Is this person getting more attention than me?’ It was dark, and we betrayed everything we tried to achieve with the first album.”
The interview was conducted specifically to celebrate the iconic album that served as a way to prove to the music industry that they were going to do what they wanted with their career and were not going to follow the formula that the record label or any professional in the field wanted.
