Shawn “Clown” Crahan , co-founder and percussionist of Slipknot , spoke about the band's future during an interview with the official Knotfest website.
Clown revealed that the band is working on a new album and that the highly anticipated Look Outside Your Window is in production. It's worth remembering that the album was originally slated for release in 2023, but the musician confirmed it will be released this year.
The material on Look Outside Your Window was originally recorded when the band was working on their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone . Clown, along with Corey Taylor, Jim Root , and Sid Wilson, experimented a bit between intense recording sessions, producing songs that had a more psychedelic feel. Taylor told Eddie Trunk in 2019 that the material takes on a “ Radiohead .”
“In 2025, I’m going to work on ‘No Complaints’ [mode],” Clown says in the interview. “I’m simply not going to do that anymore. I realized that my expectations will never be met. So, I need to take some time for myself. It’s probably the last part of my ego that I need to work on. That way, I can just go with the flow. Nothing will bother me. I can just work on the positive potential.”
He continues: “We have a new album. We’re going to start sometime. I want to go into it with an energy like it’s all starting over. That’s how I want to approach it.”
Clown explains that there are talks about everything being done in Slipknot's rehearsal room, like they did in the band's early work.
“If we have our space and our things working, someone will come up with something, everyone will get together,” he says. “And if we say, ‘Oh, this is good,’ that thing will be ready by the end of the night and then worked on for a month. And that’s the best way to write damn Slipknot music.”
The band has been teasing fans for some time about the possibility of new music. A single called “Long May You Die” was announced , but, at the time of publication, it has not yet been released.
The album 'Look Outside Your Window'
Look Outside Your Window was recorded around the same time Slipknot worked on the album All Hope Is Gone (2008). Of the nine original band members, only Clown and Jim Root participated in these side sessions, along with Corey Taylor and Sid Wilson.
Although Corey tried to blend the songs they made for Look Outside Your Window with All Hope Is Gone , it wasn't working, as these other songs ended up being more melodic and were even compared to those of Radiohead . According to Clown, when they played them for other people, the common response was "it's not Slipknot".
Because of this, none of the eleven songs are on the standard version of All Hope Is Gone , however “Til We Die” is present on a special edition of the album. Another song originally written during the sessions was “My Pain”, released on the album We Are Not Your Kind (2019).
Actually, there was an intention to finally release Look Outside Your Window in 2019, but a series of delays occurred and the album is still awaiting release.
