After much mystery, Slipknot announced a partnership with the creators of the virtual game The Sandbox to launch KNOTVERSE . According to the band, KNOTVERSE will be "an immersive space that will have Web3 experiences," all curated by the group and their Knotfest .
The Web 3 that the band mentioned is a proposal to combine the best of the two previous online worlds – Web 1.0, which was the World Wide Web, and Web 2.0, which are social networks and other user-created tools: decentralization and user-generated content, and also adding to all this distributed ledger technology, on blockchain .
The band said that with this new feature they will take the Knotfest event "to the metaverse." KNOTVERSE will host a series of Web3 experiences such as unique NFTs, video presentations, games, fan and festival interactions, as well as merchandise, new music, and in-person events.
Titled KNOTVERSE LANDS within the virtual world of The Sandbox, the work will be entirely based on the aesthetics of the band and the Knotfest festival. Access the news here.
Speaking about the partnership, percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan recalled the time when video games had limited technological resources: “When I started playing Quake online in 1999 and Minecraft in 2011, it was another level. But at the time, I couldn't have Sid scratching by my side, I couldn't offer visual art to the fans. All we could do together was play the game.”
Sébastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox , expressed his satisfaction with the new partnership: “We are proud to welcome Slipknot and Knotfest as the first metal band to open a home for their community in the open metaverse of The Sandbox .”
“We are building the future of digital expression and social interactions, and this partnership invites a new, diverse, and free-thinking audience to experience the benefits of true ownership, where any Slipknot NFT can be used not only in the Sandbox , but on any other compatible platform.”
Slipknot is currently preparing the successor to their 2019 album , We Are Not Your Kind.
