Slash improvises the solos at every show – and never repeats himself, says Richard Fortus

Guns N' Roses guitarist talks about Pink Floyd cover on tour

Guns N' Roses recently wrapped up another North American tour. In an interview with Guitar World , guitarist Richard Fortus revealed his favorite moment during the shows and why Slash is a legend.

In 2016, when Axl Rose broke his foot and had to perform sitting down for a while, the time it took the vocalist to get to the piano before playing "November Rain" was longer, and the band needed to include another song during that part of the show.

Fortus had no idea what to do, and Slash suggested a cover of Pink Floyd ." "He started playing, and we joined in. We only played it once during soundcheck, and our crew—who are biased—just stopped and applauded. It was that magical moment… That's what music is, a magical conversation," Fortus recalled.

The song remained on the band's setlist, but Fortus didn't see any repetition of Slash's part when performing the track. “It was a lot of fun because Slash played it completely differently every time. That's why he's a legend. He doesn't repeat himself,” he stated. “Slash is always Slash. He goes out to play a solo in front of a packed stadium and has no idea what he's going to do. He's so focused on the moment that he starts playing and whatever comes out, comes out.”.
