The Brazilian punk band Skarno released a special song for the Christmas festivities last Friday, the 15th. Part of Wikimetal on Groover , the track "Feliz Moralismo" (Happy Moralism) satirizes the awkward family atmosphere of end-of-year family gatherings.
In a press release, the band states that the song's objective is to criticize the lack of understanding of Christian teachings on a date that is supposedly meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but is often marked by judgment and falsehood within the family. "Tradition and religion are meant to bring affection and comfort, not a sadistic circus in the name of a self-proclaimed family," they explain.
With lyrics based on personal experiences, the song criticizes this need to gather with people who weren't necessarily by your side during the good and bad times of the year, but who insist on being together during those moments. "Being a secret friend to the one who tortures you / A gift received without the bond of tenderness," says a line from the lyrics.
Skarno consists of Rudi (vocals), Erick “Papito” (guitar), Alex “Fininho” (bass), and Vanessa (drums). Listen to “Feliz Moralismo” below.
