Six Reasons to Listen to Wikimetal

Why not make your week better by starting that dreaded Monday with a good dose of metal?

By Mauricio Oliveira

Greetings, Wikimates!

I was delighted to accept Wikitrio's invitation to write for the new website of the best Hard Rock and Heavy Metal podcast in Brazil, and it's only fair that I begin my participation in one of the segments of this new phase of Wikimetal by talking about the 6 reasons to listen to Wikimetal:

1. Heavy Metal:
You can never have too much heavy metal. So why not make your week better by starting that dreaded Monday with a good dose of metal? Just over an hour of podcast with varied and high-quality content, all to the sound of carefully selected songs (there are so many good ones…) to make you headbang with each new episode. Want more? Then also listen to the concert coverage done by people who understand and love metal.

2. Exclusive Interviews
Where else can you hear an interview like this?” is a phrase that keeps popping up in every episode featuring a high-profile guest, whether national or international. Intelligent questions, complete answers, likeable idols… And the international interviews include translation for those who, like “Rafael Coração-de-Metal Masini”, aren’t fluent in English (ma parla italiano).

3. National Pride
: The whole of Brazil has excellent bands in a wide variety of genres, from Hard Rock to Thrash, from traditional Heavy Metal to instrumental music, and Wikimetal is your chance to discover some of the Brazilian Metal scene. Bands from all over the country showcase their work in this segment of the podcast, and you can contribute by suggesting a band from your region that deserves more recognition. It's definitely my favorite segment on the podcast; every week brings something new and always of high quality.

4. Promotions
Listening to the podcast isn't enough? Want more metal for the rest of the week? Then participate in the episode promotions for a chance to win t-shirts, CDs, DVDs, autographed books, concert tickets, and other special prizes. And these aren't boring promotions where you have to do a thousand things and embarrass yourself to have a chance to participate; these are prizes given from headbanger to headbanger, no frills, and out of love for the music. Enjoy!

5. Knowledge
It's no coincidence that Wikimetal's slogan is "The Heavy Metal encyclopedia in podcast form"; everyone on the Wikitrio knows exactly what they're talking about. There's always a chance you'll hear something interesting you didn't know, and they speak authoritatively on the subject. Discover new bands, rediscover old bands, learn about Metal trivia, and get a feel for what it was like to have lived through the emergence of the Brazilian metal scene alongside icons of National Metal.

6. Wikibrothers
And it's not just the Wikitrio who know a lot about metal. The "Wiki" in the podcast's name isn't there by chance either; we're all very welcome to contribute by giving feedback, suggesting topics/bands, and commenting on the episodes. The "Heavy Talk" segment within the podcast episodes is the trio's direct communication with all listeners, in addition to comments on the website, Twitter, and Facebook. As they themselves say, several WikiBrothers and WikiSisters are always bringing respectful opinions and relevant and intelligent comments, making the episode's topic last all week and creating new friendships.

Of course, there are many other reasons to listen to Wikimetal. Listen to the episodes and find yours. I, for example, find it excellent to work out while listening to the podcast (the time passes much faster), but I have to be careful because I usually start laughing when I get to the blooper reel at the end of the episode.

That's it, bye and see you next time!
