Luiz Cesar Pimentel from Portal R7 analyzes Viper's new album.
Brazilian journalist Luiz Cesar Pimentel from the R7 portal wrote a review of Viper's new live album, "Viper – To Live Again – Live in São Paulo". Check out the journalist's text below, along with details about the album, which is already available for pre-order :
30 years, three decades, 11,000 days.
Given the dynamics of life, this period of existence for a band is equivalent to at least a century when placed on a human scale. Even more so for a Heavy Metal band. This is what Viper celebrates this April 8th. The anniversary is commemorated with "Live in São Paulo," a CD (first) and DVD (followed by another) in which the 30 years are revisited through their main classics, and with the band's lineup, if not the original, then as close as possible to the classic lineup.
Viper started as a group of friends. And it remains so to this day. Vocalist Andre Matos, still pursuing his solo career after stints with Angra and Shaman, has returned to the band. Guitarist Yves Passarell, currently with Capital Inicial, joins the band, but Hugo Mariutti is in his place as the main guitarist. The quintet is completed by Pit Passarell (bass), Felipe Machado (guitar), and Guilherme Martin (drums).
At the mixing desk was Maurício Cersosimo, the drummer's brother, audio producer for the project, and whose resume includes Titãs, Lobão, Skank, and Emicida, among others.
As stated, they are friends. This creates a rare on-stage chemistry. Furthermore, with so many hits in their long career, the songs have become equally beloved by the audience, who sing them in unison, from "Knights Of Destruction" to "Rebel Maniac".
The opening track is a calling card for the group's current phase, with Andre reaching unimaginable notes amidst the sonic onslaught. In "Nightmares," the chorus followed by the "Ô-o-ôooo" chant is a trip back in time. "Wings Of The Evil" is killer, while Viper's first song, "HR," is a locomotive on Via Marquês, in the west side of São Paulo, where the recording took place.
The middle section of the album is devastating – “Soldiers Of Sunrise”, “To Live Again”, “A Cry From The Edge” and the song that became Andre's comfort song, the anthem “Living For The Night”.
“Prelude To Oblivion” and “Act One” bridge the gap to the epic “Theatre Of Fate.” It closes with “Moonlight” and another anthem, “Rebel Maniac.” Everybody, everybody.
