Paul McCartney comments on the death
Legendary producer George Martin, known worldwide for producing the Beatles' albums, passed away last night at the age of 90. The news came via a tweet from drummer Ringo Starr and was later officially confirmed by the media.
Known as the fifth Beatle, in addition to the career of the Liverpool quartet, Martin produced numerous albums including Jeff Beck and UFO, as well as solo albums by Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney.
Bassist Paul McCartney commented on the death: “He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me. He guided the Beatles' career with such skill and good humor that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone deserves the title of fifth Beatle, it was George (…) From the day he gave the Beatles our first recording contract until the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.”
