Drummer Mike Portnoy has compiled a list of his 10 favorite albums in terms of drumming. Portnoy comments that his most important criterion for judging an album is always the drums: "If it makes me want to play air drums, it's a great drum album .

Portnoy comments on the top three: “I’m cheating here with my triple Metal tie. That’s three albums and three drummers who revolutionized my world. These three were absolute pioneers of Metal drumming. Nobody played that fast.”
