Megadeth was formed in California in 1983. Founded by Dave Mustaine , who had recently left Metallica , and bassist David Ellefson , Megadeth released their first album, Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!, in 1985.

In 1986, Megadeth released their second album, Peace Sells… But Who's Buying?, on a major label, Capitol Records . Their third album, in 1988, So Far, So Good… So What!, was well-received by fans and critics, but the following year Mustaine was arrested for drunk driving and admitted to a rehabilitation clinic.

Sober, in 1989 Mustaine called guitarist Marty Friedman to join Megadeth and the band released the classic album of their career, Rust In Peace , in 1990. The following albums, Countdown To Extinction (1992) and Youthanasia (1994) maintained the same commercial and critical success.

Megadeth took a break from activities in 2002 when Mustaine suffered an injury to his left arm, but returned in 2004, without David Ellefson, who sued Dave Mustaine for financial reasons. The band has undergone several lineup changes throughout its history, with Mustaine being the only constant member. In total, more than 20 musicians have played with Mustaine in Megadeth.

With 14 studio albums, 11 Grammy nominations, and over 50 million albums sold, Megadeth is recognized as one of the greatest thrash metal bands of today.
